'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' may be linked to the animated television series 'Star Wars: Rebels' and may bring characters from the small screen on the big screen. Diego Luna's mysterious new role may have been leaked. He is speculated to play a rebel spy who infiltrates the Imperial Senate.
According to Melty, the upcoming 'Rogue One' spin-off film may connect with season 3 of 'Star Wars: Rebels' as well as 'Star Wars: Episode VI - A New Hope' in that it will feature several elements and characters from the two. Gareth Edwards' upcoming film is set for release on December 16, 2016 but details remain scarce. It was also reported that fans will have to wait for the release of the official trailer after the debut of Marvel's 'Captain America: Civil War' before getting any more hints on what to expect.
Another article by Moviepilot pointed out that writer Gary Whitta has been recruited to prepare the screenplay for the upcoming spin-off film. Whitta is also known to have written some episodes for 'Star Wars: Rebels' but this may just be a coincidence. It was reported that 'Rogue One' and 'Rebels' are both set in a timeline in between the main 'Episode III' and 'Episode IV' films and feature almost identical storylines.
'Star Wars: Rebels' is an animated television series on Disney Channel that focuses on a group of rebels aboard a starship called Ghost fighting off the evil Galactic Empire. Characters in the series include Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, Zeb Orrelios and a droid named C1-10P. It is unknown whether any of these characters will make it on the full-feature live-action adaptation of 'Rogue One'.
Meanwhile, Diego Luna's mysterious new role may have been leaked. According to Movie Web, the 36-year old actor may possible play a rebel spy who successfully infiltrates the Imperial Senate. Others believe that he may be playing Biggs Darklighter, Luke Skywalker's friend.
Luna joins a superb lineup which included Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed and Ben Mendelsohn. Their respective roles remain unnamed as of the present.
'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' is an upcoming science-fiction action-adventure film intended as the first in a planned anthology of films set in the 'Star Wars' universe. It is directed by Gareth Edwards with a screenplay from Chris Weitz and story by Gary Whitta. It is scheduled to be released on December 16, 2016.
