‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Cast Update: Elena Lincoln will be portrayed by Hollywood icon; Dakota Johnson talks about sequel

Though the first film was a bust in critics, it was a box-office hit and fans are asking for the second movie and now, latest updates of the 'Fifty Shades Darker' involves an actress to play Christian Grey's ex. Moreover, lead actress Dakota Johnson released statement that will excite the fans of the franchise and the book.

After the success of Fifty Shades of Grey, fans are now asking for a sequel as soon as possible but it won't be available until next year. However, the studio knows how to excite the audience as they've included Kim Basinger in the film. According to Movie Pilot, Hollywood royalty Kim Basinger has been casted in the Fifty Shades Darker as the key role of Elena Lincoln. The LA Confidential actress is now officially casted by the studio thus ending the months of speculation by the audience on who to play Christian Grey's ex. Many thought that Charlize Theron is in the shortlist since it's more than a decade since Basinger's last big movie, 8 mile, in 2002.

To give further details regarding what will be the 62-year old actress is going to be, Entertainment Weekly wrote about Elena Lincoln. In the article, Lincoln is a business partner and former lover of the lead character, Christian Grey. She was introduced during the second book in E.L. James' best-selling series as an antagonist in the relationship between Grey and Ana Steele (Dakota Johnson). Fans of the franchise should be aware that Kim Basinger is considered as a Hollywood legend since appearing the 1997 film, LA Confidential as Lynn.

Last of the updates, lead actress Dakota Johnson talked about the Fifty Shades Darker insinuating that the sequel is exciting. In the report of Just Jared, the actress revealed that they're going to start filming soon and she's thinking it will go "exciting." This is due to the sequel will go back and develop further characters such as Elena Lincoln and the story would be more like a thriller now. She added that it would be "awesome." When asked regarding the film's nudity, the actress merely said that it is never comfortable to be seen as that since the circumstances are not a private nor an intimate environment.

Fifty Shades of Grey is the second installment of E.L. James' Fifty Shades trilogy. Fans have been waiting for a sequel since watching the 2015's first film entitled Fifty Shades of Grey which was a box-office hit after revenues of $570 million. Latest updates on the progress involves Kim Basinger as the antagonist in the second film while Dakota Johnson shared her thoughts on the sequel. Fifty Shades Darker will be released worldwide on February 10, 2017.
