While medical and recreational marijuana use may be legal in Colorado, employers in the state can lawfully fire workers who test positive for the drug, even if smoked while off duty, according to a court ruling on Thursday.

The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit to California educators over getting adequate English language instruction. State and federal law are requiring schools to teach non-English speakers the language, but California, according to the suit, is not offering instruction to nearly 20,000 students. The suit also alleges that the lack of instruction meant that some children were held back a grade or forced to live with low proficiency scores because of a language barrier.
