Singer D4vd has been identified as a target of a Los Angeles County grand jury investigation into the killing and dismemberment of a 14-year-old girl whose body was found in a Tesla registered to him, according to recent court records and news reports.
Newly disclosed subpoenas show prosecutors are calling relatives of the 20-year-old musician, whose real name is David Burke, to testify before a secret grand jury examining the teen's death. The documents, filed in Los Angeles County, indicate the panel is reviewing potential homicide and related charges but do not specify when a charging decision might be made.
The girl, previously identified in reports as 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, was found dead in 2025 inside an abandoned Tesla that had been towed from the Hollywood Hills. Authorities later confirmed the vehicle was registered to Burke, drawing the recording artist directly into the investigation, according to the BBC.
Investigators said the body was badly decomposed and showed signs of dismemberment, complicating efforts to determine the exact cause and time of death. Detectives executed search warrants, including at a residence linked to Burke, though officials have not publicly disclosed what was collected or how it may be used before the grand jury.
Law enforcement officials have previously referred to Burke as a suspect or person of interest, but he has not been charged in connection with the killing, the Washington Times reported. Prosecutors are now using the grand jury process to compel testimony and obtain records they say are relevant to reconstructing the events leading to the teen's death.
Attorneys for Burke have declined to comment on the latest development, and representatives for the singer have not answered recent requests for a statement from multiple outlets. In earlier comments, a spokesperson said Burke was cooperating with investigators, while some officials have suggested his cooperation has been limited.
The case has already affected Burke's emerging career: tour dates were quietly removed or postponed after the discovery of the girl's body and the public disclosure of the car's ownership. Promotion around his recent music releases has slowed as scrutiny over the grand jury investigation has intensified, as per CNN.
