A 14-year-old girl in Florida was lured to her death by a boy who pretended to have a crush on her, according to media reports.

Danika Troy was shot and killed on Dec. 1. Police quickly zeroed in on two suspects and have charged Gabriel C. Williams, 16, and Kimahri A. Blevins, 14, with first-degree murder.

In a press conference with reporters, Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson described the crime as "truly horrific." According to Johnson, Williams stole his mother's handgun and shot Troy numerous times.

Johnson said that following the murder, the pair set the girl's body on fire. Johnson said he is working with prosecutors to have the two teenagers charged as adults.

In an interview with the New York Post, Troy's mother, Ashley, said her daughter was talked into going to the woods by the two teenagers.

"Gabe pretended to have feelings for her. That's how she was lured," Ashley Troy told the newspaper. "I still need answers. I'm just left asking why. She just wanted to be in love."

Johnson said during the press conference that Troy knew the boys through school and described them as acquaintances. Ashley reported her daughter missing on December 1. The girl's body was found by a passerby who called police.

The New York Post reported that the murder might be related to a dispute on social media that happened over Thanksgiving break. The newspaper reported that Troy had block Blevins on social media and had said that Williams was "worthless and a gang banger."
