Real-life Daniel Blakes Need Greater Support

By

There are many people who suffer in this world because of ailments, accidents, or illnesses. Many of these are occurrences that are out of our control, and there are thousands of people out there in today's world that suffer from not just the ailments that bind them but the companies that provide healthcare or aid to said suffering people, much like Daniel Blake. For people like Daniel Blake, the welfare system has, on countless occasions, caused many people to suffer rather than to get the aid that they need, and if there's anyone who needs help in these trying times, it's all the Daniel Blakes in the world that can't be heard.

Before we understand why people like Daniel Blake are suffering so much, we must first understand the complexity of the situation that Daniel Blake had to go through and who he was. According to NPR, Daniel Blake was a man who had died because it had taken so long for the welfare system to hear his appeal for his situation to the point that he had died before anyone could hear what he had to say. In the movie "I, Daniel Blake", a comedian plays the role of the protagonist and at the end, the only way he could get his feelings out to the public was to write it down on a letter addressing all its issues. While the movie was highly rated, its message was clear: There are people out there like Daniel Blake who suffer from the welfare system that's supposed to help them and though the movie was a piece of social-realist fiction, it was real enough to affect a large demographic of people who need greater support and are not getting the help they need.

The Guardian claims that the real-life Daniel Blakes who need greater support need to be heard. The system that those people fall under is clearly not a working system and has its own list of flaws, but it still needs effort for all of the people who suffer like Daniel Blake did to have a voice. The ability to keep people like him warm and fed in a system that takes cuts from their income through benefit sanctions only make it worse. Challenging the system is the only way to incite the change that these people need, so doctors and psychologists that have been paying attention have decided to band together to protest against an issue that clearly deserves much more attention.
