Parents of Toddler Shot With Air Rifle Call For Amendments of Law

The parents of a toddler are asking for a change in the law after their toddler was shot in the head with an air rifle and is now battling with several seizures a day. Edward Studley and Amy Allen want rules requiring air gun owners to have licenses.

The case of Harry Studley shocked the entire country after he was shot with an air gun and now parents have asked for air gun licenses, as reported by the Daily Mail. Allen, the parent, took her children, Harry and Riley, to Jordan Walters and his girlfriend Emma Horseman's apartment. Both are good friends of Harry's parents and are the defendants of the said case. Later, Walters took the air rifle, which he used for shooting rabbits, and cleaned it in front of the children.

As such, Harry started to cry and began looking for his parents. Horseman suggested that Walters shoot the toddler so he would shut up and the latter, believing that the gun he was cleaning was empty, aimed the gun at Harry and fired it right into his head. Horseman denied the accusations and said he never told Walters to shoot Harry. She was cleared of aiding and abetting while Walters faces jail after he admitted GBH. The incident traumatized Harry and his parents who have sought for air gun licenses.

Accordingly, the parents of the toddler of the 18-month-old call for a change in the law so a license is needed for an air rifle. Notably, most air weapons can be bought by anyone over 18 without a license in England, which is contrary to what has been implemented in Scotland. "We need to put the awareness out there so other parents who own air weapons, any kind of weapons, are careful around their kids so the same thing doesn't happen to their children," said Edward Studley. In addition, the parent wishes to start a campaign and get their local MP involved to impose a licensing law with air guns following Scotland.

After the shooting incident, Harry was taken to Bristol Children's Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. Currently, at age two, his parents note that the toddler's speech is developing normally, however, he suffers from post-traumatic seizures a day and is treated with anticonvulsant drugs. His parents hope Walters be jailed for a long time because what he did was such an unforgivable act. Pushing for a change in the law that requires licenses for air gun owners will prevent for a similar situation to happen and put the hearts of the parents at rest.
