Google’s Daydream View VR Headset on Sale For $49

By

Virtual Reality headset from Google - Daydream View is now available at a worthy price of $49 from its previous $79 as the company decides to slash the price for a very limited time.

Daydream View is an upgrade, nicer version of the Google Cardboard which supports a wide range of smartphones for an ultimate experience of VR. It is built from high-quality materials, equipped with built in head strap and comes with a wireless controller for supported apps. The VR console offers users a simple way to experience 360-degree games, videos, and panoramic photos when attached to the phone into its all-fabric headset body.

Google Daydream View now comes in 3 new colors - Snow (White), Slate (Dark Gray) and Crimson (red). The Daydream View is compatible with the excellent Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones and brings Google's Daydream VR store and all the associated apps and content to life.

New apps and games, including Netflix VR, HBO Now VR and Lego BrickHeadz Builder VR are now available for the console. The price cut will likely come as good news for developers putting their content onto the platform as there were reports such as from UploadVR about some seemingly sluggish sales for many of Daydream's top apps within the first few months of launch.

Though Google has not shared any official figures yet, this is more than likely down to a low install base for the ecosystem. If Google's approach to shifting Daydream is anything like Samsung's with Gear VR, there could be an expectation to see plenty of these types of sales in the weeks and months to come. Both Samsung and Oculus outright gave Gear VR away with purchases of new phones over certain periods of 2016, and Google already offered a free View units to anyone that pre-ordered its Pixel phone late last year.
