Edward Snowden: Self-Proclaimed 'Whistleblower' On the Run, Loses Job

By

The whereabouts of the 29-year-old computer Edward Snowden, the former CIA employee who claims to be the source of classified leaks, appear to be unknown after the reportedly checked out of his Hong Kong hotel, Fox News reported. He also was fired by the firm Booz Allen.

The scrutiny follows revelations from Snowden, who has chosen to reveal his identity. Snowen fled to Hong Kong in hopes of escaping criminal charges as lawmakers including Senate intelligence chairwoman Senator Dianne Feinstein accused him of commiting an 'act of treason' that should be prosecutors.

Snowden's whereabouts on Tuesdays were unknown, a day after he checked out of a hotel in Hong Kong.

Officials in Germany and the European Union issued complaints over two National Security Agency programs that target suspicious foreign messages, potentially including phone numbers, video and online communications transmitted through U.S. providers, news reports said.

Reporter Glenn Greenwald, who broke Snowden's story, told the Associated Press the Guardian is deciding when to release the next story based on information in documents reportedly given to him by Snowden.

"We are going to have a lot more significant revelations that have not yet been heard over the next several weeks and months," Greenwald said.

Snowden faces decades in jail for the disclosures if the U.S. can extradite him from Hong Kong, where he says he has taken refuge after saying his sole motive was to "inform the public."
