Democratic Tammy Duckworth to challenge Republican Mark Kirk on issues of National Security

By

Fighting to hold on to his political career, U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk turned a recent Republican discussion on the Islamic State group, complete with a map of Syria he brought with him to western Illinois. But then, the opposing party, which are the Democrats believe that U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth could win the position this fall against Kirk.

"I want you to send a national security hawk to the Senate," the former Navy intelligence officer told the crowd via Yahoo! News. And just like any other Republicans up for the upcoming election, the US Senator is making national security as the main focus of his discussion for his second term in the position.

Many people claimed that the senator is using a strategy that has been historically working well for the GOP. Even particularly at times when voters are on the edge about the country's safety.

However, a lot of people think that Democratic U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth could alter the case when they would face each other during the discussion. She was a former Army helicopter pilot, that's why Duckworth lost both legs when the Blackhawk she was co-piloting was targeted in Iraq way back 2004. She later garnered the award called the Purple Heart.

US News also reported that the Democrats, moreover, feel that Duckworth could be one of their best chances to win a seat this fall in the U.S. Senate nationally. They claim that the party needs to choose four seats in order to regain control if a Democrat wins the race for president.

Duckworth would not only allegedly neutralizes Kirk on national security issues, they say, she would also one-ups him. "We're eager to have this debate," said Duckworth spokesman Matt McGrath, adding that Kirk has been wrong on critical foreign policy and national security questions, "often with disastrous results."

"We're eager to have this debate," stated Duckworth spokesman Matt McGrath via St. Louis Post Dispatch. He also added that Kirk has been mistaken on critical foreign policy and national security questions, "often with disastrous results."

Kirk campaign manager Kevin Artl also claimed that the former congressman boasts his record. Starting from his 23-year career with the Navy up to his work in the U.S. House and Senate, where he's been one of the staunchest opponents of Iran, he was proud of his service to the country.

For now, the two candidates have very evident opposing services and views about heavy topics like national security. And both are still considered to be the heavy favorites when it comes to winning their respective primaries, due to their strong name recognition and substantial fundraising advantages.
