Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor: What's Keeping It From Happening & How Close It Is From Materializing

The Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor super bout is frequently teased by promoters, but how far it is from actually happening is another story. Mayweather Jr. is toying with the idea of coming out of retirement to fight UFC champion Conor Mcgregor.

The undefeated boxing kingpin addressed rumors surfacing over social media by stating that he's still currently retired unless he announces otherwise. Mayweather emphasized that if a deal is to be made, he himself will be the first to announce it to the media.

According to Mirror, McGregor is equally enthusiastic about a potential super-fight between him and Mayweather Jr. The Irish champion is very vocal about his intentions, even sharing via social media that he has his eyes on Floyd Mayweather alone.

Mayweather Jr. himself told ESPN that they are "very very close" to finalizing the super-fight. However, factors from UFC Champion McGregor's end seem to be detrimental to the materialization of the fight.

Despite the mutual intentions of both parties, it's not that easy for them both to make this fight happen. There are a lot of factors that are keeping the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor super bout from happening. 

The issue won't be the fans as there are thousands of MMA and boxing fans that are eager to watch a Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor fight. However, McGregor's contractual obligations with the UFC proves to be the biggest challenge for the big match-up.

UFC President Dana White even warned McGregor that, if he goes against their terms, it's going to be an "epic fall" for him. Another challenge is within the promoters and the Nevada Athletic Commission officials, since the fight will likely go down in Las Vegas, should it materialize.

NSAC chairman Anthony Marnell revealed that, there are ongoing conversations between key promoters and officials but most information is disclosed to the media. Another issue is the amount each promoter is asking, which is within the $100 million range. Despite McGregor's contract disputes and the event budget, Mayweather "believes" that the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor super-fight will happen eventually.
