'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7 Finale: Will Damon die? Series cancellation likely after season 8

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 has been picked up for season 8, however, lead actor Ian Somerhalder hinted that the upcoming season may also be the last. Rumors have circulated as well that Somerhalder's character Damon Salvatore will die in the finale episode. Also, The CW has released its official plot description of episode 16 'Days of the Past'.

Recently, "The Vampire Diaries" has been picked up for season 8 although the ratings have plummeted. Lead actor Ian Somerhalder, who plays the role of Damon Salvatore, opens up if the show will still continue after the 8th season. The 27-year-old American actor and director admitted that he is still uncertain if season 8 will be the final installment to air on The CW or not since the show has been losing track over the past few years, The Inquisitr has cited.

With that being said, rumor has it that Somerhalder's character will be killed off in the finale episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7. According to International Business Times, the promo trailer clip teases that Damon will die due to Stefan's magically transferred scar which will bring an unexpected aftermath.

As for the official plot of episode 16, Spoilers Guide notes, "Damon offers to have Stefan's scar magically transferred to him and discovers that doing so may come with unexpected consequences. With time running out and Rayna closing in on Stefan, Valerie desparately attempts to reason with Damon before its too late; After being framed from breaking Rayna out of The Armory, Enzo attempts to clear his name, but not before a violent run-in with Nora forces him to make a recovery."

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 finale episode (episode 16) is entitled as "Days of the Past". The forthcoming episode is scheduled to premiere on Friday, April 1, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. first and exclusive on The CW.
