‘The Good Wife’ Cancelled, Series To End After Season 7

By

The final days of The Good Wife are numbered. CBS has announced Sunday during the Super Bowl that the compelling legal drama is ending after nine episodes.

Entertainment Weekly reported that following the announcement, the network followed up with a press release which have statements from the show’s producers and series lead Julianna Margulies.

CBS president Glenn Geller expressed his feelings over The Good Wife’s cancellation. He said: “It’s never easy to say goodbye to one of the crown jewels of your network and studio, much less to a show that is among the best on television”.

“But it also feels very right to end with the seven-year story its creators envisioned, and to celebrate the show’s final run while at the top of its creative game.”

The show’s co-creators Robert and Michelle King, meanwhile, opened up on Twitter to give their farewell to the many supporters of Alicia Florrick.

“Telling the story of the Education of Alicia Florrick is the creative dream of a lifetime. It was always our plan to tell it over 7 seasons,” they shared.

“We wanted the story to have a beginning, middle, and an end — that’s the only way actions can have real consequences — and it’s the reason we had episode titles count up from one word to four, then back down again (it would have been pretty embarrassing if we were cancelled in our fifth season).”

Robert and Michelle closed the statement by thanking their fans, cast, crew and the network. They said that they’re excited to celebrate the final nine episodes which will wrap-up the story to its “natural conclusion”.

As to how the series will end, the only spoiler that they offered is the final hour’s title which will be called “End”.

Julianna Margulies, the actress who portrayed Alicia Florrick for seven years, said in a statement via ET Online that being part of the CBS hit drama has been “one of the most rewarding experiences” in her career.

"As we close the book on our beloved show, I am humbled and grateful to know that together, we created and were a part of something truly remarkable," the actress added.

Don’t miss the finale of The Good Wife, airing on Sunday, May 8 on CBS.
