Xiaomi Mi 5 Confirmed To Launch On February 24; Device Specs, Price Detailed

The much awaited Xiaomi Mi 5 is now confirmed to launch on February 24 based on the post made my Xiaomi's Co-Founder, Liwan Jang. The devices specifications and features were also specified.

According to International Business Times, it is almost definite that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will make its first appearance on February. This is after the company's co-founder and Senior Vice President Liwan Jiang revealed that the handset would come after the Chinese Spring Festival, which falls on 8 February. 

Recently, he even specified through Weibo that Xiaomi Mi 5 will be unveiled at the company's Spring Conference on 24th of February . More details about the event will be announced on Tuesday, January 26th.

Furthermore, Technology Personalized cited the design of the Xiaomi Mi 5. This upcoming device from the Chinese tech company is expected to sport a 2.5D curved glass display with a fingerprint scanner on the front. This is somewhat different from the design of the Redmi Note 3 and Redmi 3. The Mi 5 is also predicted to come in two color variants - white and black.

Apart from the design, here are some specifications and features that can be present on Xiaomi Mi 5. The upcoming flagship smartphone will apparently boast a 5.2-inch display with 1,080 x 1,920 pixels screen resolution. But there are also some reports stating that it could have a QHD resolution.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 will have one version with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of native storage space; and one with a solid 4 GB of RAM and 4 GB of in-built storage.

When it comes to its camera, the Mi 5 will house a 16-megapixel rear-facing snapper and a 13-megapixel front-facing shooter. Under its chassis is a Snapdragon 820 chipset that runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS with MIUI 7.

Powered by a 3,600 mAh capacity battery, the Xiaomi device will introduce a fingerprint sensor on the home button. This unit is speculated to be the world's smallest and fastest fingerprint scanner.

As for the price, past speculations suggested that the 32 GB Xiaomi Mi 5 will be tagged at 1,999 yuan for about $303 while the 64 GB model will be priced at 2,299 yuan for about $349.

As always, readers are advised to take the reported Xiaomi Mi 5 price, specifications with the proverbial pinch of salt until the company confirms its specifics. Hopefully, the January 26 announcement include something about the device.
