Shooting in Thornton Bar Leaves One Injured, Suspect Arrested

A man suspected of shooting in a bar and severely injuring a person was arrested early Monday morning in Thornton.

The shooting was a result of an altercation in Chamucos Bar and Grill at 8651 Washington St. around 1:30 am, reported Denver Post.

Sgt. Matt Kandt said a group of five people, which included three men and two women, were escorted from the bar after which one of them fired inside the building. They fled from the scene immediately.

A 40-year-old man was injured and was taken to a nearby hospital. Police responded to a call complaining about the altercation.

"Further investigation into the incident provided leads to identify the person involved in the shooting," Kandt said.

Police succeeded in arresting the man who opened fire inside the bar. His home in Gale Boulevard was surrounded by the police, who came with a search warrant.

"It was not so much a standoff, but until they got a search warrant they couldn't go in," Kandt said, reported Denver Post.

Kandt said he didn't know whether further arrests might be coming. "But this is the person of interest in the shooting," he said.
