'Indiana Jones 5' is a planned follow-up to 2008's 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull'. Disney executive Robert Iger confirmed the possibility of more sequels to come. Steven Spielberg also expressed his desire to return to the franchise together with lead actor Harrison Ford.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Disney's CEO and chairman Robert Iger announced the possibility of more sequels for the iconic adventure-loving archaeologist. He told Bloomberg during an interview, "With George Lucas's Star Wars and Indiana Jones, by the way, which will be coming, we have more great stories." Doctor Jones' last big screen outing was for the 2008 release 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull', which grossed $786 million in the box office.

Another article by the Independent also reported that acclaimed director Steven Spielberg previously hinted at his enthusiasm with returning to the action-adventure franchise. He said, "As long as there's more adventures out there, I've got a bullwhip, a fedora, a leather jacket and a man on a horse who knows how to get the job done."

Spielberg admitted that he couldn't imagine any other actor besides Harrison Ford to portray Indiana Jones. He said, "I don't think anyone could replace Harrison as Indy, I don't think that's ever going to happen... There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones and that's Harrison Ford." Previous speculations emerged of a younger actor taking up the role in replacement of Ford including Hollywood breakout star Chris Pratt.

Ford gained international fame with his portrayal of the titular character beginning with the first ever 'Indiana Jones' release, 'Raiders of the Last Ark', from 1981. He went on to reprise his role in the subsequent films in the franchise namely 1984's 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom', 1989's 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade', and the most recent 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull'.

There has been no official confirmation regarding Ford's return in the planned 'Indiana Jones 5'. According to Huffington Post, the 73-year old actor recently reprised his role as Han Solo in another Lucasfilm project, 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens', together with veteran co-actors Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.

'Indiana Jones 5' is a planned action-adventure film in the highly popular franchise created by George Lucas. Steven Spielberg may return as the sequel's director with Harrison Ford in the titular role. To date, all films in the series earned a collective $1.9 billion worldwide.
