‘Fifty Shades Darker’ lead star Dakota Johnson proud of her work in trilogy; Melanie Griffith finally watches daughter’s film

'Fifty Shades Darker' lead actress Dakota Johnson admitted that she was proud of her work in the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' cinematic trilogy. She said she was happy it opened up new opportunities for her career. Her mother, Melanie Griffith, also admitted to finally seeing her daughter's film.

According to US Magazine, Johnson admitted that she was quite proud of her work in the live action adaptation of E.L. James' bestselling series of erotic novels. She said, "I'm proud of Fifty Shades of Grey... I don't need to distance myself from that. The more work I do, the more the general public sees the different things I can do. Do I think it opened doors? Yeah. More people know my name.

The model and breakout actress starred alongside Jamie Dornan in 2015's release by director Sam Taylor-Johnson. The film, despite garnering generally negative reviews from critics and the general public, earned a massive $570 million at the box office.

Johnson called out on the brutality of the film industry while doing promotion for her new film 'Black Mass', according to The Guardian. She said, "No matter how tough you are, sometimes there's the feeling of not being wanted. It's absurd and cut-throat. Whenever I have downtime, I'm unsure that I will ever work again. I don't know what it is, but it's a definite thing that happens to me." She added that although her mother Melanie Griffith had "extraordinary" acting abilities, it had been difficult for her to find roles.

Her comments echo those of other female Hollywood A-listers who condemned the industry's culture of sexism and ageism. Other actresses including Maggie Gyllenhaal and Liv Tyler also expressed their disappointment at Hollywood's brand of age discrimination in prior interviews.

Meanwhile, Griffith finally admitted to having watched her daughter's racy film. According to a report by E Online!, she revealed that she still couldn't bring herself to watch Johnson's intimate scenes despite seeing "a little bit" of 'Fifty Shades of Grey'.  Griffith said, "Would you want to see your child having sex like that? Just regular sex, I couldn't do that. But the 'room of pain' sex? I definitely couldn't do that!"

Johnson's next movie projects include the February 2016 release 'How To Be Single' opposite Rebel Wilson and Allison Brie as well as 'Suspiria' due for premiere in 2017. She will also reprise her role as Anastasia Steele in the upcoming sequel 'Fifty Shades Darker'.

'Fifty Shades Darker' is an erotic drama film intended as a follow up to 2015's 'Fifty Shades of Grey'. It will be directed by James Foley based on a screenplay by Niall Leonard, author E.L. James real-life partner. It stars Johnson, Dornan, Max Martini, Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford and Rita Ora.
