Starlight Children’s Foundation Case: Employee sues company after being criticized by bosses

By

A woman employed at the Starlight Children's Foundation was slammed by her superiors for being "too emotionally involved" with sick children's families. The Starlight employee filed a case in the Supreme Court against the company.

An employee of Starlight Children's Foundation sued her company after being criticized by her higher-ups, reported Herald Sun. The woman named Ms. Helen Greta Robson, 55 years old, claimed in her legal documents that she was being gossiped at in her office back in July 2006. Robson is working as a wish services officer for charity in Starlight.

The rumors followed after Robson's former company, Make-a-Wish Foundation, reached out to Starlight Foundation to inform them of Robson's previous performance. Through a phone call, it was reported that Make-a-Wish told Starlight that Robson did something that was "very serious" to the children at their firm.

Starlight Foundation admitted that the topic about Robson occurred during a phone conversation between one of their officials and Make-a-Wish. It was said that Starlight conducted an investigation on Robson's work practices and behavior after the phone call.

Lawyers wrote in legal documents that Robson interpreted the conversation as accusing her of committing illegal acts on children. "The plaintiff understood this communication as inferring that she had mistreated and molested children while working at the Make-A-Wish Foundation," said Robson's lawyers in the documents.

The Starlight Children's Foundation is a non-profit charity organization aimed to improve children's lives and health all over the world. Starlight collects donations to help fund hospitals, specialty camps, clinics, and respite houses in Puerto Rico and the United States. The growing organization currently reaches out to children and families in 11 countries.

Starlight was founded as early as 1983 and is continuing to expand around the globe. In 1989, Starlight opened its office in Canada. The Suburban reported that the Starlight Children's Foundation Canada received a year-end gift in the form of a monetary donation from Ardene Foundation.

It was stated that Ardene was able to collect $1 and $2 donations to present a cheque amounting to $120,000 to Starlight. Brian Bringolf, Starlight Canada's Executive Director, said, "Working with the Ardene team has been truly enjoyable. The relationship has developed quickly into a 'family,' where all decisions are based on what's best for the kids."

Bringolf congratulated the people of Ardene Foundation, saying that Ardene and Starlight have the same belief that all children should be free to wish and dream. It was reported that the money will be used to fund programs helping kids and their families deal with with serious diseases.
