Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 7 Arriving Soon to Xiaomi Mi3, Mi4 and Mi Note

By

Similar to other smartphone makers, Xiaomi has been working hard to deliver the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to it handsets. Finally, the newest update in MIUI 7 is expected to arrive to Xiaomi Mi3, Mi4 and Mi Note really soon.

According to MobiPicker, it was first week this month when the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Xiaomi Mi4 and the Mi Note series smartphones was reported. The Xiaomi handset owners will be glad to know that the update is now passing through final stages of testing, and will start reaching the devices in a couple of days if everything goes smoothly.

The information came from the MIUI operations manager, who shared the good news on Chinese Weibo website. He allegedly revealed a screenshot, which revealed the 518MB weight of the highly awaited update. The said screenshot also confirmed that the MIUI interface would stay same with MIUI 7.

India Today added that there's limited information known about the Xiaomi-specific changes that would be brought in courtesy the new update. The stable build of the MIUI 7 was criticized by users as it stuck with Android 4.4 KitKat, instead of Lollipop.

Previously, the Chinese tech giant has made it clear that users shouldn't be worried about the Android version of MIUI V7.0.5.0KXDMICI (666MB) as its features would be similar across all its devices. But still, users were stuck with an earlier version of Android and missing out on many key enhancements of the Android Lollipop.

The MIUI developer team is now going straight to Android Marshmallow and many are already excited to see how Xiaomi shapes it up. The MIUI is now synonymous with some heavy skinning on top of Android. As usual, there is still some time before the final stable build of the update starts rolling out. The Beta update will be trailed by a Developer preview and only then Xiaomi will release the OTA for users.

Meanwhile, Softpedia noted on its article that although many will be happy to know that Xiaomi plans to upgrade the Mi3, a 3-year-old smartphone, to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, much more will be disgruntled. This is because other popular handsets like Redmi Note 2 and Redmi 2 won't be among the first to obtain the update.

In fact, it's still uncertain whether or not the company will offer the Marshmallow upgrade to some of its mid-range Android units as well. Hopefully, more details about the update and the list of Xiaomi devices to receive the latest OS will be announced soon.
