‘Tekken 7’ Update: VR Support Out of Players’ Expectations; Arcade to Console Matchmaking Possible, Dev Says

By

Previous reports mentioned that the seventh installment of the Tekken franchise might come out for Playstation 4 with Virtual Reality support. However, game developer hinted that the VR support is not what players expected it to be but arcade to console matchmaking is possible.

Playstation Lifestyle mentioned that Bandai Namco will not integrate the Virtual Reality support feature to the main game. Instead, the VR component will turn around the character roster of fighters in some capacity.

In an interview with Wired, game designer Michael Murray explained that the Virtual Reality support feature of Tekken 7 is different from what fans are expecting to be. He further said people like the core gameplay of Tekken.

"I think people think we're going to incorporate VR into the main game itself, when we don't currently see a way that that would enhance Tekken to a new level better than what it would be right now," the site quoted Murray.

Murray added that Tekken 7 is about cool characters especially the female ones like Lucky Chloe, Wired wrote. The different characters have customization and cool techniques, all are motion captured. However, Murray worried that not all fans owned a virtual reality headset and that may distort the expectations of the game. He explained optimal experience does not rely on the player being in the environment but it is offered by the game mechanic itself because Tekken 7 is a fighting game.

Reports pointing out to Tekken 7 not only coming to consoles but also matchmaking with arcade is an interesting idea, according to Segment Next. Murray said there is an appeal in bringing matchmaking between arcade and consoles together. Arcade players will have the chance to battle players from all over the world not just in arcades but also to Playstation Network.

However, the site added, one possible problem is players using consoles may quit too soon because they are losing the bout. Another thing is, if arcade to console matchmaking is probable, it will happen only in Japan since arcade is not widely accepted in the West.

Tekken 7 is expected to be available sometimes in 2016 for Xbox and Playstation.
