An Amish mother who drove a golf cart into a lake has been hospitalized with mental health issues after her 4-year-old son was found dead in the same lake.

Ohio police were called to the lake after the woman intentionally drove a golf cart into Atwood Lake on Saturday. The woman's 15-year-old daughter and her twin 18-year-old sons were in the cart with her at the time. The three children all were able to get out of the water on their own and were unharmed.

In talking with the woman, police said she made disturbing statements regarding her 4-year-old Vincen Miller and her 45-year-old husband, Marcus J. Miller, PEOPLE reported.

WKYC reported that among the statements, the woman told police that she put the 4-year-old in the water to "give to God." Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell told the station that she seemed "genuinely sincere about the fact that she was told to do these things."

Police said that divers were eventually able to locate the 4-year-old at the end of the dock. The woman was hospitalized.

"Her statements were radical. She had run from them and hid in some weeds and was easily captured," Campbell told WKYC. "Her statements were bouncing around, so they felt the need to get her some medical help."

Police said they are continuing to search for her husband. "His safety is definitely in question and he was last seen by a witness unrelated to the family...with the mother at the same boat dock where the four-year-old was later located at the bottom of the lake," police said.
