A Detroit father is facing a slew of felony charges after allegedly forcing his 11-year-old daughter to help him commit a home invasion, then abandoning her while fleeing from police.
The incident unfolded on the evening of April 29, when 29-year-old Andre Stephon-Curtis Broadenax allegedly broke into a home on on Detroit's east side, WXYZ reported.
Broadenax had reportedly driven a stolen car from Dearborn Heights to the scene and brought his daughter along, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. Officials confirmed the car had been reported stolen earlier that day.
Police say the homeowner's adult son interrupted the break-in around 8:45 p.m., prompting Broadenax to flee on foot. In his haste, he left behind the stolen vehicle and his young daughter.
Officers later apprehended Broadenax nearby. He was arraigned on charges including first- and second-degree home invasion, larceny in a building, receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle, inducing a minor to commit a felony, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
During a court appearance on May 6, Broadenax's bond was increased to $150,000, with conditions that he wear an electronic tether and remain under house arrest if released. His next court date is a probable cause hearing scheduled for May 14, followed by a preliminary examination on May 21.
