Former T-ara member Areum has appealed her suspended sentence for child abuse of her child and defamation against her ex-husband.

The former idol was given a suspended prison sentence of eight months, two years of probation, and 40 hours of child abuse prevention classes for alleged claims of abuse, including claims that she'd used profane language against her ex-husband in front of her children.

Areum had previously admitted to the charges in court.

According to Sports Chosun, Areum contested the court ruling, appealing through her legal representative on January 23rd. Areum alleged that her ex-husband had committed continued acts of child abuse against their children during their marriage.

Meanwhile, her ex-husband filed a complaint in February against Ahreum and her mother, accusing them of violating the Child Welfare Act (child abuse and neglect) and committing abduction and abandonment of minors in response.

Her mother was sentenced to four months in prison and one year of probation and tried in court on claims of "neglecting her grandchildren" in a toxic environment, including charges of verbal abuse against her former son-in-law from 2021 to 2022.

Areum debuted as a member of T-ara but departed from the group in 2013. She remarried in 2019 after divorcing her first husband, with whom she has two sons.
