A Texas man called police, claiming his girlfriend tried to kill him. However, authorities believe that he actually cut his own face with a razor to frame her.

Police arrived at an apartment Wednesday in Bangor, Maine, after receiving a call from Aric Houghton, 30, who alleged that he had been assaulted by his girlfriend. Officers found the man bleeding from his face, and transported him to the hospital, as reported by WMTW.

Houghton reportedly told police that his girlfriend had assaulted him with a razor blade. But while talking with the woman, she allegedly told police that Houghton had attacked her and then cut his own face, saying he was going to get her arrested, WGME reported.

The man, who is from San Antonio, Texas, had been arrested the day prior after he was accused of assaulting his girlfriend, as reported by Boston 25.

Houghton was charged with domestic violence aggravated assault, obstructing the report of a crime and criminal mischief after the first incident, but the girlfriend said he returned and got into her apartment again with a key.

The 30-year-old was additionally charged with domestic violence aggravated assault and violation of conditions of release.

The woman was taken to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries. Houghton is being held at the Penobscot County Jail.
