A California man suspected of driving under the influence was arrested after a slip of the tongue, accidentally identifying himself as the "DUI" to law enforcement instead of the "DD".

After watching a car swerve on the road, a Murrieta police officer conducted a traffic stop and pulled the vehicle over, reported ABC 13.

After making contact with the vehicle's driver, the suspect can be heard identifying himself as "tonight's DUI" to the officer in bodycam footage of the incident posted to the Murrieta Police Department's Instagram page.

The suspect tells the officer that he is the "DUI", an acronym meaning "Driving Under the Influence", instead of the "DD", an acronym meaning "Designated Driver" which represents a sober individual tasked with helping other inebriated members of a group return home.

"I was just dropping off my friend because I'm the DUI tonight," said the driver.

"You're the DUI tonight?" the officer asked.

"Yes sir," the driver responded.

"Do you mean to say, 'the DD?'" the officer said.

The driver later admitted to having consumed alcohol before getting behind the wheel. Police conducted field sobriety tests which he failed to pass, struggling to maintain balance when asked to walk. He was then arrested for DUI.

"The Murrieta Police Department currently employs two officers who specialize in DUI investigations and receive additional training in the detection and investigation of impaired drivers," said police in a statement on Instagram. "Additionally, MPD's traffic bureau routinely conducts saturation patrols and driver's license checkpoints in order to further deter drunk driving."
