A parent is under arrest after allegedly storming into a North Carolina high school and assaulting a student in the hallway, authorities report.

Quinton Earl Lofton is facing charges of felony assault by strangulation and disorderly conduct following the incident at Fike High School, Wilson County Sheriff's Office confirmed to WNCN.

Lofton entered the building and was instructed to report to the main office but instead attacked a student in the hallway, Fike Principal Ross Renfrow said. Video of the incident seems to show Lofton holding the victim by the throat and pushing him down against stairs. When Lofton releases his neck, the boy appears to have a brief seizure before a friend helps him to his feet.

The assault stemmed from a "situation that happened outside of school," according to a statement Renfrow made to families. Renfrow says he and school staff quickly intervened and escorted Lofton out of the school.

"The safety of our students and staff is our top priority," Renfrow said. "We will not tolerate violence or threats against our students or staff."

No information has been released about the condition of the student or the circumstances surrounding the off-campus dispute.

Lofton has been barred from school grounds.
