Sheldon "Timothy" Herrington Jr., who is accused of killing Jimmy "Jay" Lee while they were both students at the University of Mississippi in 2022, googled "how long does it take to strangle someone" the morning Lee went missing.

Lee, a prominent member of the school's LGBTQ+ community, went missing on July 8, 2022, and Herrington, who was not openly gay but had allegedly slept with Lee, was the last person he saw, NPR reported.

On that day, Herrington was later captured buying duct tape and driving to his hometown in Grenada, about an hour away from campus. Herrington was arrested two weeks after Lee went missing and charged with capital murder.

Although Lee's body has not yet been found, a judge declared him dead.

Herrington faces life in prison and currently remains out on bail after Circuit Judge Kelly Luther was forced to declare a mistrial on Wednesday after jurors remained in a deadlock after a 9.5-hour deliberation.

The judge will now consult with prosecutors and defense attorneys to determine whether they will set another trial, per NPR.
