A California man who underwent emergency surgery for a self-inflicted stab wound after he allegedly tried to kill his wife purportedly admitted to murdering his mom, too.

Frank James McMillan, 63, of Vallejo, California, allegedly stabbed his wife Saturday morning before turning the knife on himself, according to police.

McMillan and his spouse were admitted to the hospital for surgery to treat critical knife wounds and are expected to survive.

It's unclear what led to the stabbings.

When McMillan woke up from his medical procedure, he allegedly "spontaneously confessed" to killing his mom at her Vallejo home, said police.

Officers responded to her house for a welfare check and found her dead inside. Authorities did not elaborate on a motive or manner of death for the woman, whose identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

McMillan faces charges of murder and attempted murder and will be transported to the Solano County Jail after he is medically cleared to be incarcerated.
