An Ohio woman has been arrested after allegedly committing matricide by stabbing her own mother repeatedly as she relaxed in her recliner, according to authorities.

On Wednesday night, around 11:34 p.m., law enforcement responded to reports of a stabbing at the 600 block of 14th Avenue in Middletown. They found 72-year-old Minnie Lewis suffering from multiple stab wounds at the crime scene.

Lewis was transported to the Atrium Medical Center where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Lewis' daughter, 44-year-old Mekeshia Lattimore, was arrested and charged with murder after being found at the crime scene, according to court documents obtained by WLWT 5.

"Minnie was just a lovely person. She was caring. I can't help but cry I just can't believe she's gone," said next-door-neighbor Minister Doris Williams. "I'm really going to miss her."

Williams also stated that she knew Lattimore struggled with her mental health, but never imagined Lattimore would hurt her own mother.

"What made her snap, I don't know?" Williams said.

Lewis' son, who allegedly witnessed the murder, told law enforcement he witnessed "Mekeshia over the top of the victim (her mother) while the victim was sitting in a recliner, her hand and arm moving in a stabbing motion toward the victim."

He then "observed blood coming from the victim's neck," after yelling at Lattimore to get away from Lewis.

Lattimore was booked into the Middletown City Jail, where she is being held.
