A Florida driver remains on the loose after shocking footage captured the moment a Jeep Wrangler ran over a 73-year-old man lying near the curb, leaving him dead at the scene.

Officials reported that the incident occurred around 2:06 a.m. on the 100 block of Northwest First Street, where elderly Esperant Lahens was discovered dead at the scene, according to Local 10.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department stated that a dark-colored Jeep Wrangler had been parked in the area when Lahens lay down on the ground in front of it.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows three individuals returning to the Jeep, with the driver then pulling forward, running over Lahens, who was lying near the curb. Investigators have not yet confirmed whether the driver was aware of Lahens' presence.

A passerby discovered Lahens unresponsive around 6:25 a.m. and alerted authorities. Currently, no charges have been filed against the driver, but police are continuing to gather information as part of the investigation.

Anyone with details is encouraged to contact Traffic Homicide Investigator Russell Brown at 954-828-5754 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
