Two female Kansas officers who sued the Topeka Police Department for gender discrimination were handed down a massive payout in the verdict on Thursday.

A jury in a federal court delivered unanimous agreements on September 19 for the cases of two plaintiffs, Jana Kizzar and Colleen Stuart, who sued the City of Topeka and former TPD Police Chief Bryan Wheeles in early 2023.

Both women accused the TPD of running a "good ol' boys system" that holds a pattern of gender discrimination.

Court documents obtained by KSNT reveal the large sums of cash in the lawsuit from the City of Topeka.

Colleen Stuart received a total of $277,871.25 in damages, and Jana Kizzar received a total of $488,930.45.

The women had originally requested $1.5 million in damages for future lost wages, benefits, and emotional distress in the initial court filing in 2023 and had asked the jury trial take place in Kansas City, Kansas.
