Football: Manchester City Launch World Record Bid For Lionel Messi

By

Lionel Messi, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is considered as the best player in the world. The world famous Argentine has started his career in Barcelona and he has been loyal to the club since then. Lionel Messi will turn 30 in June and there is a good possibility that his Barcelona run may come to an end.

In past 7 to 8 years, Manchester City really has emerged as a big club in English Premier League, thanks to their transfer budget. Since Manchester City is tied up with the Etihad airways, transfer budget allocation has not been a problem for them. In fact, they have completed some world record transfers in past few years. Right now, it looks like Manchester City is set to complete another world record transfer by signing up Lionel Messi.

In last summer, Manchester United completed a world record transfer of 89 million euros while they signed Paul Pogba from Juventus. But Sun Newspaper has claimed that Manchester City is all ready to beat that record by signing Lionel Messi this summer. It is reported that Manchester City is ready to bid with an amount of 100 million euros.

So far, Barcelona has not confirmed any news about Messi. They have not set any price tag for him too. At the same time, they are willing to listen to the bids from Manchester City. It has really encouraged Manchester City.

Manchester City is currently placed at the 5th spot in the table and they won only 13 games out of their 21 games. Therefore, it is clear that they are not having a great season and certainly, they are not performing up to the expectations. Manchester City currently has Pep Guardiola as their manager who also had a very successful run with Barcelona. At the same time, the combination of Messi and Guardiola has won 14 trophies between 2008-2012 span. Therefore, if Messi signs for Manchester City then the old combination may come into play and Manchester City really can experience the glimpse of success.
