Bill Cosby Defamation Lawsuit to Proceed Despite Actor’s Motion to Dismiss

By

Bill Cosby's defamation lawsuit filed by the former supermodel Janice Dickinson will proceed according to a judge's ruling. Cosby earlier tried to stop the case by filing a motion to dismiss it in court.

Dickinson celebrated the judge's decision as she was pushing Cosby's defamation lawsuit for more than a year. Judge Debre Weintraub rejected the entertainer's request to have the case filed by Dickinson to be dismissed. The judge ruled that Dickinso has enough evidence for a trial to proceed. Weintraub said that she's not weighing Dickinson or Cosby's credibility. However, the former model could seek for punitive damages if she wins the case, according to WCTI 12.

Dickinson's attorney Lisa Bloom said no trial date has been set, but "we are ready to go."

Dickinson's appearance in court came after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, ABC News reports. Bloom said that the judge's ruling was very significant as Cosby has been fighting with the women who had accused him in court. More than 40 women have come forward to accuse Cosby of drugging and sexually abusing them. The actor denied all the allegations and he was protected due to the status of limitations. Cosby is out on $1 million bail after Andrea Constand accused him of sexual assault.

Cosby's lawyer Monique Pressley claimed that they are considering an appeal on Cosby's defamation lawsuit before the trial. They strongly believe that Dickinson's claim is untrue and should be dismissed in court.
