George Zimmerman Trial Livestream: Autopsy Examiner Shiping Bao Refuses To Give Up Notes to Defense (Video)

By

The George Zimmerman Trial on Friday involved testimony from the associate medical examiner Shiping Bao, an expert in forensic pathology who has performed more than 3,000 autopsies during his career, CNN reported

According to Bao, Martin's death was a homicide and he "was alive for one to 10 minutes after he was shot. His heart was bleeding until there was no blood left."

Of the single shot to Martin's heart, he added, "There is no chance he could survive. Zero."

"I am under the oath, I cannot lie under the oath," he said. "I cannot answer if I do not know."

Bao also spoke from a set of prepared notes, according to CNN.

Bao said that he described Martin's pain and suffering after he was shot, which defense attorneys objected. The judge sustained the objection, and Bao was directed away from that line of questioning, the Associated Press reported.

Bao also estimated that Martin lived from one to 10 minutes after he was shot, and the bullet went from the front to the back of the teen's chest, piercing his heart.

Zimmerman faces second-degree murder charges for the shooting of Martin, who was unarmed at the time. The defendant has claimed that he shot Martin in self-defense, citing Florida's 'Stand Your Ground' law.
