Justice Department to review San Francisco Police Department after being in hot water due to shooting incident

Tough time for the San Francisco Police department since they will be investigated thoroughly by the U.S. Justice Department. The investigation has lead from the protests and the city mayor after incident of allegedly hate-crime between five police officers and one black male that lead to the death of the latter.

The Justice Department has been requested to submit a comprehensive review regarding the actions, training and practices of San Francisco Police. According to CNN, the review comes from the request of the city after a graphic video detailing the shooting of Mario Woods has surfaced.

The mayor, Edwin Lee, has formally asked for a federal investigation to determine the indictment of the shooters. In a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch, he stressed "the dissolution of trust between communities of color and law enforcement" before adding that he'd like to open doors to regain transparency and accountability. The mayor assured the people that he's also looking for facts and answers on how to rebuild the city's trust between law enforcement and the communities they've sworn to give safety.

Moreover, the police department is facing more than just scrutiny with this incident as reported by Fox News. In the article, the December 2 shooting of Woods has increased racial tensions and immediate calls for the police chief, Greg Suhr, resignation. The police has stated that though there are five of them involved with the shooting, only one was white but still, protests persists and calls to indict the officers of murder. Meanwhile, the department also asked other officers to turn in other colleagues who are having intolerant behavior for public relations campaign. Also, the review will follow reports of racist and homophobic conversations between the officers.

The side of Mario Woods' family also gave their statement with regards to these actions as reported in RT. John Burris, acting as the Woods lawyer, has showed support regarding this matter. He stated that this could be the first step of the healing process for communities and the law enforcement. However, he wants to be assured that there should be no limitation with this incident. Mrs. Woods also said that her son is suffering mental illness and should have started working in UPS.

San Francisco Police Department is now being boiled after a vide regarding the shooting incident was released and is contrary to what they've reported. The Justice Department will review this video, training, practice of the police department. This is after the wake of Mario Woods shooting incident which sparked protests and a request from the city mayor.
