Casey Anthony Speaks at Bankruptcy Hearing, Declares She is 'Living Free off the Kindness of Others'

Casey Anthony, the woman acquitted of murdering her daughter, Caylee, met with creditors on Monday to discuss her bankruptcy. Anthony explained at the hearing that she is unemployed and lives off "unsolicited donations."

This was her first public appearance since she left jail in July 2011, the 26-year old discussed her financial troubles. She testified that she has not accepted any book, TV, or movie deals. She also said that she does not own a house or a car.

"I don't pay rent, I don't pay utilities. I guess you could say I'm living free off the kindness of others," she said.

The 50-minute hearing was preceded by rowdy media frenzy outside, with one reporter shouting, "Did you kill your child?" Anthony filed for bankruptcy in January, claiming about $1,000 in assets and $800,000 in debt.

Anthony arrived in a black SUV as several photographers and reporters swarmed her, according to the Associated Press. There were about 10 U.S. Homeland Security officers on the steps when she left the courthouse.

"From my smell test, it doesn't smell right. She certainly has a lot of kindness from strangers," Scott Shaker, an attorney of Anthony's creditors said. "Any time you see an attorney in what's supposed to be a no asset case being that active, more to the point, you had five attorneys there, allegedly none of them being paid, that's odd."

After being released from prison, Anthony disappeared from the spotlight. She was vilified online and elsewhere, as attorneys said threats were made against her. Anthony claimed she only had $484 to her name following the acquittal, according to the New York Daily News.
