Family and friends attended the funeral of Reuven Rahamin, founder of Accent Systems, who was shot dead last week at the company plant by a 36-year-old former employee. According to the Minnesota Public Radio hundreds gathered to pay their respects to Rahamin and another top executive of the company Rami Cooks on Sunday.
Miya Rahamim, Rahamin's daughter said, "He was very proud, with reason, of coming to the United States, not speaking English, and building up his own company with several patents, national recognition, and international operations...Sometimes I'd have to encourage him to get a patent because he didn't always realize what a breakthrough he'd made, because it came so naturally to him," as reported by MPR.com
Last week 36-year-old Andre Engeldinger was identified as the gunman who opened fire at the company site in Bryn Mawr, Minniapolis killing four and critically injuring three others, after which he fatally shot himself. Among those shot was the company founder Reuven Rahamin and top executive Rami Cooks.
Among those critically injured were the company's Executive Director of Operations, John Souter and the Production Manager Eric Rivers. All injured victims have been taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center. The medical center said that two of the victims are still in critical condition and the third is improving.
Christine Hill, the hospital's Media Relations Specialist, told ABC News, "We received three patients who came to the hospital and they are in critical condition and they continue to be in critical condition this evening. They are three adult males."
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that Engeldinger was recently fired from the company when he opened fire inside Accent Signage Systems, 2322 Chestnut Av, close in Minneapolis' Bryn Mawr. Police arrived with a SWAT team after getting a 911 call from someone.
Thursday evening at 7.30 pm Minneapolis Deputy Police Chief Kris Arneson told reporters in a news conference near the scene that "several are dead," as reported by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Accent System company spokeswoman Wendy Khabie told the newspaper that the "employees are all shaken up."
Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak said it was a "horribly tragedy" and that "We are deeply sorry about what has happened here," as reported by ABC News.
Engeldinger opened fire the same day he was fired from the company.
