After the massive hit of its first installment, "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is definitely on and is set to be included in the Marvel lineup for 2017.

James Gunn, who will be returning as the director of the film, confirmed the news during the recently held Dragoncon. He also dropped some hints about the upcoming movie sequel.

According to Inquisitr, Gunn revealed that Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt, will remain as the only Earthling in the crew. The director also spilled that there will be more female characters from the Marvel universe that will join the film.

However, Miss Marvel, also known as Carol Danvers, is unlikely to be one of these female characters although there were some speculations of her joining the movie. The director explained that there are plenty of new women characters and they will be introduced into the world of the "Guardians" soon.

Danvers will most likely appear sooner, but probably in another Marvel movie.

Gunn also explained about removing the cameo of Stan Lee in the first film. According to him, it was done because of creative reasons. He described the scene on Instagram.

"Rocket looks over and sees Cosmo the dog in one display case, Quill looks over into another display case and is surprised by a tentacle slapping against the glass, and Groot looks over and sees, in another display case, Stan Lee. In one take, Stan Lee just slowly turns up his finger, flipping off Groot," said the post.

One of the characters who will be reprising his role for the second installment is Dave Bautista who played Drax the Destroyer. According to Christian Today, Bautista is already renegotiating with Marvel for the renewal of his contract.

Although he will be coming back in the "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," reports reveal that Bautista has also been signed on for "Avengers 3."

This showed the possibility of having crossovers between the two films. Gunn explained that living in the same Marvel universe will allow a crossover to happen.

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is slated to premiere on July 28, 2017.
