"The Walking Dead" TV series has always had huge ratings with viewers that ushered in the resurgence of zombies as a horror icon. It's been accepted the show will not end anytime soon with its success. But that doesn't mean fans have already made theories on how the show will end.

According to one fan theory, "The Walking Dead" will end with Rick Grimes' death and his son Carl narrating the events of the show. The theory postulates that the entire show is a flashback which is narrated by an older version of Carl.

Rick is the main protagonist of "The Walking Dead" because it is Carl's version of the story which narrates the exploits of his father during the outbreak. The show will end when Rick dies and fast forwards to the future showing an older version of Carl who is narrating the story.

Cinema Blend reports that the theory is based off the Carl-centric episodes on the "The Walking Dead" which is more detailed than most episodes. Carl and Negan's conversation in the episode 'Sing Me a Song' is one of the longest scenes in the show.

Furthermore, during the same episode, Carl overheard two Saviors about herding the zombies. Carl then passed the information to the Alexandrians in the mid-season premiere.

The theory also suggests that Carl will be the last of the characters to survive in his group with Rick's death as the last. If the theory proves to be true, then the rumor of Carl leaving "The Walking Dead" as actor Chandler Riggs will attend college will be false according to Digital Spy.

It is still unclear if "The Walking Dead" will continue or add more plotlines to Carl's story after the death of his father. It's one plotline that is similar to how "How I Met Your Mother" ended. That show had the majority show narrated by an older version of the protagonist but added a few plotlines to the future timeline to wrap up the story.
