Colorado Recall: Democrats Who Voted for State Firearms Restrictions Face Severe Backlash On Tuesday (Video)

By

Two Colorado Democratic lawmakers John Morse and Senator Angela Giron who had voted for stricter gun laws including the size of ammunition magazines and requiring universal background checks last year, have faced a strong backlash on Tuesday in the state's recall, Foxnews.com reported. Colorado's first legislative recall elections pertaining to gun control have received severe blowback.

Colorado, in addition to other Democrat-leaning states like Connecticut, New York and Maryland, passed strong gun control legislation in months directly following last December's shooting at the Sandy Hook elementary school.

The recall effort in Colorado was "complicated" in the summer as a county clerk vowed to appeal a ruling to give third-party candidates more time for Tuesday's ballots.

"I have already been elected twice, I am excited by the prospect of being elected a third time," Morse said at the time.

Most Colorado sheriffs have sued to overturn certain gun control laws, like limits on ammunition magazines and expansion of background check to include online and private firearm sales, FoxNews.com also reported. The laws took effect on July 1.

Those laws, according to the sheriff's lawsuit, said that they violate the Second Amendment.
