Sony might have been slow in delivering the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to its handsets, but this is about to change as it is about to roll out the software upgrade to its Xperia Z5 and Z4 series. Other Xperia handsets are also expected to receive the new OS next month.

According to International Business Times, Sony was initially expected to release the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade for its Xperia Z series handsets in this month. However, the Japanese tech company only managed to roll out a concept beta version of the update to select smartphones like Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact.

A recent report suggests that none of the eligible Sony Xperia smartphones will be obtaining Android 6.0 upgrade in this month. Although Marshmallow update has already received certification from Wi-Fi alliance for smartphones like Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z4.

Despite the delay, Sony is reportedly set to start rolling out the Android 6.0 upgrade for Xperia smartphones in the middle of the next month and Sony Xperia Z5, Z5 Premium and Z5 Compact handsets are the first devices to get it.

Neurogadget added that Sony is currently testing the beta edition of Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact smartphones.  Beta testing is done to improve the quality of firmware updates. Over 10,000 users from Europe are enrolled in Sony's program which will finish soon.

Meanwhile, Youth Health Magazine noted that Xperia Z5 Premium, Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3 Compact, Z3+ and Z3, Xperia Z2 and Xperia 2 Tablet, Xperia M5, M4 and M4 Aqua, Xperia C5 Ultra and C4 are all eligible for the new OS, too. However, the Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia C4 handsets would not directly jump to Android 6.0 Marshmallow as it will obtain the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software first. 

Owners of Sony's smartphones will not be the only ones who will enjoy the latest operating system. Previous reports claim that there are two tablets that will be also upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow: Sony Z3 Tablet and Xperia Z2 Tablet.
