The body of a Nebraska woman who has been missing for 18 months was found a week before Christmas in a shed and police are treating her death like a homicide.

Jerica Hamre, 30, was reported missing by her family in July 2024. She was a mother of three and had worked as a certified nursing assistant.

Police said they found her body on December 17 and are treating the death as a potential murder. "It's not the outcome any of us wanted — our hearts are broken for her family and loved ones. Our condolences go out to them as they learned this news just days before the holidays," police said in a statement.

PEOPLE reported that Hamre was found in an old farm shed in Furnas County, Nebraska by a man who was working in a field. Police told the outlet that Hamre's body had been in the shed for a long period of time. After two days, they were able to positively identify the remains as being Hamre.

According to PEOPLE, authorities had a person of interest in custody, but no charges had been filed related to her death. Police told PEOPLE that "there is no ongoing threat to the community" and the person of interest was "already in custody on unrelated charges."
