They gave viewers a ghoulish encounter on Murder House, then scared audiences out of their wits at an Asylum run by nuns, and then followed it up on a trip with witches to New Orleans in Coven. This year, American Horror Story seems to be setting the bar yet again for TV shows of its kind as it returns to TV screens scaring audiences with side-shows and carnival folk on Freak Show.

According to E! Online, the fourth season of AHS will be set in Jupiter, Florida in the 1950's. It will tell the tale of a German ex-pat, portrayed by the talented Jessica Lange, who is managing one of the last freak shows in the United States.

The show is currently in production and Ryan Murphy, the man responsible for the hugely successful series, offered a sneak peek on his Twitter account which read, "Dot and Bette's first day" and revealed a photo of the much-talked about conjoined twins who will be making an appearance on the show.

AHS regular Sarah Paulson will play both parts of  the the conjoined twins and her character will make use of practical special effects, CGI and make-up, according to Entertainment Tonight. Earlier last month, Paulson tweeted,"So excited to be playing Bette AND Dot this season! Two heads are better than one!"

Alongside Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson, the fourth season of AHS will also star series regulars, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Frances Conroy and Angela Bassett.

The award-winning show has won a total of 20 awards and 97 nominations. For its third season, AHS: Coven, the show bagged four awards from various awards giving bodies and 17 pending Emmy nominations which includes Outstanding Miniseries; Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson; and Outstanding Supporting Actress ina Miniseries or Movie for Frances Conroy, Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett.

American Horror Story: Freak Show will premiere this October on FX.
