Marvel Comics definitely shook the entire Marvel universe in its most recent announcement that the Norse's god of thunder Thor will now be portrayed by a woman in its upcoming release.

Marvel, via ABS's "The View" announced that their almighty male hero of yore is not anymore worthy of wielding the Mjolnir, and now a female Thor will take over the mighty Uru Hammer, leaving comic aficionados both shocked and excited.

The revealed gender transition of Thor is a major shift in the continuity of Marvel, as the god of thunder is one of the oldest characters in Marvel's realm of superheroes.

The brand new storyline of the comic series will be penned by Jason Aaron with artworks from Russell Dauterman, the creative mind behind the image of Cyclops.

In a tweet by Marvel Executive Editorial Director, Thor's new scribe Jason Aaron said "This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is Thor. This is the THOR of the Marvel universe. But it's unlikely any Thor we've ever seen before."

Taking off this October, the latest Thor comic is billed as "one of the most shocking and exciting changes ever to shake one of the "big three" of Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor."

In his statement, Marvel editor WIl Moss said the inscription in Thor's hammer, saying "if HE be worthy" needs to be changed. He added that the new Thor will be part of the vast array of empowered female Marvel superheroes.

"The Incription on Thor's hammer reads, 'Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.' Well it's time to update that inscription," said Moss. "The new Thor continues Marvel's proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow, and more. And this new Thor isn't a temporary female substitute-she's now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy."

Marvel said that the upcoming version of Thor, their eighth title featuring a female lead character, "aims to speak directly to an audience that long was not the target for superhero comic books in America-women and girls."
