Uruguay's Luis Suarez shows infamous biting skills, gets away with it as team beats Italy

By

Uruguay's star Luis Suarez bit yet another opponent player during a highly-critical match against Italy at the 2014 World Cup, Daily Mail reported. The British tabloid said Suarez's act in the second half of the match has made the game the worst of all seen in this year's tournament so far. When he was earlier dubbed as the hero of the hour when he scored two goals for his team to win in an earlier match against England, Suarez appearing to bite Italian player Giorgio Chiellini as the pair tussled in the box showed an ugly side of the Uruguayan, as this was not his first incident.

In 2010, Yahoo Sports recalled that he bit PSV's Otman Bakkal while playing for Ajax. Suarez was later on awarded a seven-match ban for his intentional assault. Last year, he had bitten Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic while playing for Liverpool, which earned him a 10-match ban.

Oddly enough, what followed after his bite on Chiellini, who showed the bite mark left by Suarez on his left shoulder to the referee, was another proof of the inconsistent refereeing that has already plagued the tournament earlier on. A replay focused on the two showed that Suarez buried his face into Chiellini's back, and the latter tried to shake the Uruguayan off, which led the two fall to the ground. While Chiellini tried to get a penalty call on Suarez by showing the obvious evidence, the Uruguayan had held his teeth as if to show it was accidental.

Suarez was not punished for the incident.

The hero of the game was Diego Rodin, who scored the only goal in the match with a header, much to his teammates' relief. Italy's attempt in scoring a goal to force a draw was unsuccessful. Uruguay's win has advanced the team to round of 16 alongside Costa Rica.
