Chris Brown arrives 'Con-Air' style in Washington for assault hearing

By

According to a CNN report, troubled singer Chris Brown has landed in Washington, DC together with US marshals who had taken his custody to face an assault charge filed against him by a purported fan. According to a Marshals Service spokesman, Brown will be locked up in jail until his trial in DC, which is scheduled later this month. Federal marshals had taken the singer from the Los Angeles County sheriff last Wednesday and saw him chained at his ankles, waist and arms most of the time while in custody.

Mark Geragos, Brown's lawyer, had failed to convince a court judge on Monday about their request to drop the assault case against his client on the grounds that the prosecutors for that case has committed misconduct. Judge Patricia Wynn reportedly denied Geragos' claim that US attorneys has misuse the grand jury process in preparation for the Grammy winner's trial. Brown and bodyguard Christopher Hollosy has been accused by the complainant of hitting him on a sidewalk just blocks away from the White House in October last year, CNN said.

Despite the fact that the assault is considered a misdemeanor if convicted, Brown has landed himself to jail before the charge because he violated his probation stemming from a earlier, more famous case, of which he was said to have attacked then-girlfriend Rihanna during a confrontation five years ago, the news outlet said.

Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault in June 2009, of which a judge ordered a five-year probation and 1,400 community labor-oriented service hours for Brown. Brown's probation has benn reportedly revoked twice last year, and the second time was because of his alleged assault and subsequent arrest in Washington.

CNN stated that although Brown has completed a court-ordered rehabilitation and anger-management classes, the judge stated that the singer could be released after the assault trial in Washington scheduled on April 17. Should Brown get convicted for assault, the judge will decide at another April 23 hearing of whether Brown should serve the remainder of his probation in jail, the news outlet added
