The North Carolina House of Representatives approved a bill Wednesday that would require local law enforcement and county governments to cooperate with federal immigration officials.
The bill would make two amendments to the North Carolina General Statutes. The first would amend NC General Statutes § 162-62 to require law enforcement who are processing prisoners to report the number of immigration status inquiries regarding detained prisoners to the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Justice and Public Safety instead of the Governor's Crime Commission.
