Investigation on Bitcoin exchange CEO's death puzzles Singaporean investigators

By

The death of First Meta Chief Executive Officer Autumn Radtke has been declared by Singaporean police as unnatural and ruled out suspicions of foul play, the Hindustan Times said in a report. The local technology website who first reported Radtke's death had also amended its report to read that it was unclear how Radke had died. She was reportedly found dead by authorities after a call on February 26 revealed that Radtke's body was found on the second floor of a public housing estate in Singapore, which is on the edge of the country's central business district.

Pundits have said that Radtke's death could have a connection to the latest setback the popular virtual currency has experienced. Hindustan Times said that exchanges Mt Gox and Canada-based Flexcoin claimed Bitcoin thefts by hackers. Mt Gox CEO Mark Karpeles earlier said that the loss of some 850,000 Bitcoins owned by the company and its investors have played a crucial factor to the company's demise when it shuttered late February and filed for bankruptcy shortly. Flexcoin, on the other hand, claimed that it was forced to also close shop when hackers attacked and stole $600,000 worth of Bitcoins from its systems.

The Singapore Police Force issued a statement about Radtke's death and said, "She was pronounced dead at scene by paramedics. Police are investigating the unnatural death. Preliminary investigations show that no foul play is suspected."

Hindustan Times defined that the term unnatural death is often used to suspected deaths that are not due to natural causes like an illness.

Shanghai-based managing director Zennon Kapron of Bitcoin-focused financial consulting firm Kapronasia had said that First Meta was one of the pioneers of exchanges that deal with virtual currencies like Bitcoin.

It was observed that Radtke shared an intriguing post on Facebook sixteen days prior to her death. Radtke shared a link to an article titled "The Psychological Price of Entrepreneurship," which tackles entrepreneur hardships prior to gaining success in their chosen industries. Ratdke attached a comment on the link, which read, "Everything has its price."
