Macbook Air i5 Gets Its Linux Counterpart, Slimbook KDE i5, i7 Features

The Macbook Air i5 retails for about $900 to $1,000 while the Slimbook offers similar specs at a lower price albeit running a different operating system.

The KDE Slimbook not only tries to operate like the Macbook Air, it even looks like it too. Slimbook is a Spanish manufacturer that specializes in creating quality laptops and various electronic devices.

The utilization of a Linux-based operating system is usually the most speedy option when it comes to a smoother laptop experience. Slimbook's KDE i5 laptop takes advantage of open-source operating systems by running on an Ubuntu-based KDE neon OS.

According to SlashGear, the KDE Slimbook laptop is mostly aimed for developers who focus on software creation without the hassle. The laptop is fitted with a Intel HD 520 GPU that has 16GB of DDR3 memory. The slimbook KDE laptop sports a 13.3-inch display and a 1920 x 1080 HD panel.

The laptop also comes with a beefy 6,800 mAh battery, two full-sized 3.0 USB ports, memory card reader, mini HDMI slot, webcam, Ethernet adapter and a 500GB storage. As for the processor, the KDE laptop comes in two variants, the Slimbook i5 model and the Slimbook i7 one.

The Slimbook i5 is outfitted with a Intel Core i5-6200U processor with 2.3GHz dual-core while the Slimbook i7 sports an Intel Core i7-6500U 2.5GHz dual-core processor. Both models are priced at $779 and $907, respectively.

Meanwhile, fans of Apple's Macbook Air line-up might have to wait longer for its latest model. According to MacWorld, the future of the Macbook Air product line looks grim.

The source mentioned that there are "strong" hints that the Macbook Air line-up might even be discontinued altogether. The lack of Macbook Air announcements in Apple's recent events are worrying fans of the product line.

The same source mentioned that last year's update was quite "underwhelming" since Apple only announced minor storage changes to the 13-inch Macbook Air model. If that's the case, consumers can always consider opting for a Linux-based laptop instead.

There's always the Slimbook KDE laptop as an alternative. After all, it already looks like the Macbook Air with the exception of the operating system and slight performance difference.
