'Gold' is Inspired by The Bre-X Scandal

"Gold" which is stars Matthew McConaughey is based on a real life story of David Walsh. The movie is inspired by the Bre-X scandal.

A report from Bustle indicates that Walsh is the founder of the Canadian mining company, Bre-X minerals. The company has been founded in 1989 and has not been successful for four years straight. However, the fortune of the company changed when Walsh and geologist Michael De Guzman purchased a land in Indonesia in 1993.

Walsh and De Guzman believed that the land is a goldmine and declared that they have discovered gold in the area. This then made the company rose its worth by 1997. The success of the declaration and the company's fortune has been short lived.

In the meantime, a report in Calgary Herald cites the real story behind the movie is much complicated than fiction. It is titled "Gold" and is inspired by the Bre-X scandal. Matthew McConaughey stars as Kenny Wells. He portrays the role of a commodity trader and does his best to make it better in life. Edgar Ramirez is Michael Acosta who plays the role of the geologist.

Acosta persuades Wells to purchase a land in Indonesia so to find gold. This then starts the rise of the Bre-X scandal which is the central plot of the story. Aside from Ramirez and McConaughey, Bryce Dallas Howard also joins the film as Wells' girlfriend.

Meanwhile, Ottawa Sun reports that the Bre-X scandal is well-known in Canada. However there ar no signs of the company anymore but the story remains. It has been 20 years since the scandal went out but he headquarters for the company before is now stripped of any evidence that it existed.

A lot of people who invested on Bre-X lost millions. De Guzman went into hiding right after the scandal has been investigated; He has never been captured and has been believed to commit suicide. There are also reports that he is still alive up until this time.
